GriefShare Seminar
God comforts me in my troubles so that I can comfort others with the comfort that I have received from Him. 2 Corinthians 1:4
This past weekend I went to a ‘boot camp’ one-day seminar given by GriefShare. I went with some hesitation because I am not a ‘program’ lover. I like a class to come to the participants and flex to their needs. Most programs I have attended or facilitated made the participant be the flexible one that must come on board to the program. I was pleasantly surprised.
GriefShare is the basis of a small group that will meet weekly to help those who are grieving to meet the challenge of understanding the deep hurt and isolation that comes with the loss of a loved one. Facilitators help the participants find some answers to questions that will help to rebuild and rejoin life. There are three elements used each week: Video seminar, Support group discussions with focus, and workbook-based study and reflection.
GriefShare is unapologetically a Christ-centered, Biblically-based program that encourages the local church to make this an ongoing small group that can be joined at any point in the program. It is also an opportunity to reach out to the community at large to “Come on in” and find true, forever-lasting healing through Jesus Christ.
I will let you know how this goes in our church as the group meets and continues.
