This Time Together: Laughter and Reflection by Carol Burnett
From 1967 to 1978, The Carol Burnett Show came into my home with music and comedy that even my parents thought were appropriate for their 13-year-old daughter. And their daughter, me, thought the show was GREAT! While others in my peer group were watching that groovy show, Laugh-in on NBC, I was glued to the TV watching Carol and her guests sing and dance their way across the CBS stage with humor that was funny, not just bawdy.
While I found Ms. Burnett’s first book, One More Time, a good read about her early life, This Time Together connected with me because I remembered those shows. With her easy, down-to-earth style, Ms. Burnett shares anecdotes from behind and in front of the camera. I appreciated that she did not share too much about her family but kept the focus on the wonderful people she met in connection with her professional life.
If you wish there were still variety shows on TV the caliber of The Carol Burnett Show, then pick up this book and spend the evening with smiles and chuckles and Carol and her friends.
